Dorothy is more than just a film about violence. It explores toxic masculinity, emotional suppression, and how society teaches men to hide their feelings. Positives: Strong performances, Ilaiyaraaja’s music, brilliant visuals, and a meaningful core message. The emotional moments really hit hard. Negatives: Some dialogues feel preachy, and Karthi’s character transformation feels a bit rushed. Overall, a thought-provoking and emotionally powerful film that reminds us that kindness and vulnerability are not weaknesses.

"കാർത്തിക് സുബ്ബരാജ് - ഇളയരാജ മാജിക്! 🔥 കീർത്തി സുരേഷിന്റെ പ്രകടനവും മേക്കിംഗും വേറെ ലെവൽ. തിയേറ്ററിന് ശേഷം ഒടിടിയിലും (Netflix) കാണാൻ പറ്റിയ കിടിലൻ ചിത്രം! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️"

Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, "Dorothy" (2026) is a bold, unconventional, and deeply affecting film that explores toxic masculinity, identity, and empathy against the backdrop of period Madurai. The narrative follows two childhood friends, Karthi and Subbu, whose bond is tested when societal expectations of manhood and a crucial arrival force them to confront who they truly are. Sananth delivers a career-defining, fearless performance as Subbu, while Rishikanth handles Karthi's internal conflict and transformation with subtle, grounded intensity. Keerthy Suresh brings crucial emotional depth to her role, while Tirru's gorgeous cinematography and Ilaiyaraaja's evocative musical score lend a rich, dreamlike texture to the storytelling. However, the film's second half transitions into a somewhat stretched, predictable road drama that struggles to maintain its initial tight pacing. Additionally, the sheer level of graphic violence, combined with a polarising and hurried climax, may test the patience of viewers expecting a traditional commercial entertainer. Ultimately, Dorothy stands as a daring, imperfect, yet deeply empathetic cinematic experiment that fearlessly tackles complex themes rarely explored in mainstream Tamil cinema.

Karthik Subbaraj, is that really you??? A thought-provoking but controversial subject, dealt with in a good way. Still, I’m not saying it’s the best way. I’m honestly having mixed feelings about it I mean, I’m still processing it, and I guess that’s what good cinema does!
